Experts at Strategy Analytics have published a quarterly report on sales of smart speakers (those that, as recent events show, “listen” to users very carefully). The statistics collected by Strategy Analytics refer to the second quarter of this year. According to their calculations, compared with the same period last year, sales of devices of this category almost doubled: from 15.5 to 30.3 million units.
Amazon remains the market leader, selling 6.6 million devices over a three-month period and increasing shipments by 47%. Interestingly, at the same time, its share decreased from 29.1% to 21.9% due to significantly higher market growth rates. Google, the runner-up with 5.6 million columns sold, grew 74%, but, like Amazon, lost market share (18.5% from 20.8% a year earlier).
Chinese search giant Baidu even showed an increase of 3775%, from 0.8 to 4.7 million units sold. But this is due only to the fact that the company has just entered the market. Followed by Alibaba and Xiaomi. The first for the year increased deliveries by 57% (to 4.3 million units), and the second – by 68% (to 4.3 million).
Apple closes the top five with a result of 1.4 million HomePod columns sold – 81% more than a year earlier. The growth is impressive, because even taking into account the recent decline in prices, the smart speaker of the Cupertino giant is still very expensive.
All other companies that were not included in the top 5 together put 4.4 million smart speakers on the world market, which is more than twice as much as last year.
