Apple sent a letter to the podcast publishers with new recommendations for publishing to iTunes, which, among other things, preclude the use of the episode number in the podcast title.
In a letter titled “Optimize Your Show’s Metadata”, Apple listed things that publishers should avoid when publishing podcasts.
Failure to follow these instructions may result in the podcast being removed from iTunes, warned the company.
What elements of Apple recommends avoiding when publishing podcasts:
Phrases written just to fill out the description. For example, “Podcast from [имя автора]"," New podcast "," There will be a description "and so on. The literal repetition of the name or the name of the author in the description. Inappropriate content and spam. For example, headlines containing a set of words (like "Very Hungry Tourists. Travel. Discoveries. Training") or the names of the authors (like "Dr. Maria Sanchez, a traveler and enthusiast coach"). Numbers episodes in headlines. For example, “Very Hungry Tourists, Episode 01” or “01. Destroyed relic.
Apple insists that all information, including the title, author and description, should be entered in the metadata of the file itself. At the same time, the ability to get into search results in iTunes depends on the quality of metadata, it follows from the letter.
Many authors of podcasts almost immediately expressed bewilderment about the new recommendations.

If you’re using it, you’ll be fine with apple. It depends on your users side app supports this or not. It's a bit more tricky for website listeners, but solveable too.

“If you use the metadata fields and remove the numbers from the headers, everything will be fine. As for your users, it all depends on whether their application supports listening to podcasts. ”
It is noteworthy that a little later, Apple sent another letter to the publishers – in it the company clarified that it would not delete podcasts for using episode numbers in their titles.
“We received a lot of questions regarding the recommendations on metadata in Apple Podcasts, so we intend to give more comprehensive information.
Your show will not be deleted due to the episode number in the title.
At the same time, following the recommendations will help us provide your show to listeners in Apple Podcasts, and also allow you to track listening statistics through Podcast Analytics, ”noted Apple.
