Donald Trump may revise tariffs after a conversation with Tim Cook

The head of Apple told the US president about his concerns.

Apple CEO Tim Cook met with U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday night for dinner. They discussed, among other things, the impact of new tariffs on products from China on the business of the Cupertinians and the sale of their devices.

According to Trump, Cook managed to convince him that the new tariffs can really affect Apple, and, on the contrary, help Korean Samsung, whose gadgets will not suffer so much from the introduction of new duties. The president said that he is now considering this issue and possible solutions to mitigate the “blow” to the American technology giants.

Recall that the US administration plans to introduce an additional 10% of duties on goods from China. And this is about 300 billion dollars in cash. New tariffs will come into effect on September 1. However, last week a delay was introduced for devices such as the iPhone, iPad, and MacBook laptops until December 15th. But not for Apple Watch, AirPods and HomePod – there is no delay for these devices. The new duties will affect their value from September 1.

Earlier, we wrote that due to the trade war between the USA and China, the cost of new iPhones may increase by 75-100 dollars.
