Facebook tests meme app in Canada

Facebook has launched a free mobile Whale meme app, reports The Verge. Up-to-date software is currently only available on the App Store in Canada.
Whale lets you overlay text and effects on top of your photos or images from the app’s collection. The result can be shared on Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp, and you can just save it in the device’s memory.
The application has no built-in ads. As the publisher of Whale, New Product Experimentation (NPE) is indicated – Facebook's experimental laboratory that studies various aspects of the market.
In a commentary on The Information, representatives of the social network emphasized that the company needs experimental applications in order to determine which services and functions may be of interest to users. In addition, Facebook indicated that since Whale is experimental software, it is not a fact that it will subsequently be made available in other countries or that the functionality implemented in it will appear in the future in the main application of the social network or its subsidiary applications, and in addition, the experimental program may remove from the store at any time.
