Apple introduced a major software update for the iPad, which is essentially a separate operating system for tablets, called iPadOS. The company has made changes to iOS for a long time, improving the multitasking functions, adding Split View and Slide Over modes, allowing you to switch between programs using gestures and use the Dock panel for this. These changes gradually led to the fact that iOS began to develop in two directions: for a smartphone and a tablet.
iPadOS now contains a new home screen with widgets that can be resized with application icons. Apple added more gestures for multitasking to switch between applications and launch two windows of the same application side by side (for example, two documents or two letters). All of these programs are available in Exposé mode. In addition, the company has improved the function of copying and pasting on iPadOS using gestures – now you can perform this action with three fingers. Works in all applications.
The new OS includes an updated application Files, which received a quick action panel that allows you to make changes to the files, as well as support for sharing resources through the SMB protocol. Actually, in iCloud Drive now you can also share folders. However, the most important innovation is that the iPad has learned to work with flash drives, so users finally have the opportunity to connect directly to the tablet flash drives, SD cards and digital cameras.
The changes also affected the Safari browser, which on the iPadOS is represented by the desktop version. He received 30 new shortcut keys when working with an external keyboard, text size controls, settings for each individual site, and options for downloading images. There was also a full-fledged download manager.
Do not forget about the Apple Pencil. The update reduced the delay from 20 to 9 ms, and also added support for the toolbar for working with a proprietary stylus for third-party applications.
iPadOS is available for the following Apple devices:
iPad Pro 12.9 iPad Pro 11 iPad Pro 10.5 iPad Pro 9.7 iPad 6 iPad 5 iPad mini 5 iPad mini 4 iPad Air 3 iPad Air 2
