A large scheme is disclosed.
About 100 million Android smartphones were infected by the Chinese Trojan, which was distributed through the official Google Play app store. According to Forbes, malicious applications spied on users by sending information about them to a remote server.
The virus developer, the Chinese company QuVideo, has published several malicious applications on Google Play. The most popular of them, VivaVideo, has been downloaded by users more than a hundred million times.
VPNpro experts advised users to uninstall applications from this developer. In addition, they noted that unknown applications should not provide access to the files and functions of Android devices. It is after gaining such access that malicious applications begin to collect data about users and forward them to attackers.
QuVideo applications are also available on the App Store. However, iPhone and iPad versions of applications do not pose a threat to users. Applications do not have the ability to collect data from iOS device owners due to operating system limitations.
